Paradoxically little is known about the Jews. The questions that are asked in public or in private about Judaism, about Israel, about Zionism, often show a strong sense of unease; there seems to be a profound unspokenness in the West that produces a distorted reality.
Many, on the right as well as on the left, struggle to relate to the Jewish world. This difficulty – which in the last two centuries has produced a structured and widespread political language known as ‘anti-Semitism’ – can only be addressed through knowledge.
