Thirteen Jews from thirteen different places embark on the same ship for thirteen different destinations. Suddenly a storm breaks, the boat sinks and they find themselves shipwrecked on an island…
The satirical tale by one of the fathers of Yiddish literature plays with the utopian genre to advance an ironic reflection on the multiple hopes that animated the Jewish search for a Promised Land.
RAV ARIEL HADDAD presents the work of SHOLEM ALEICHEM translated from Yiddish for the first time into Italian by STEFANIA RAGAÙ, PhD in Contemporary History at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and currently Humboldt scholarship holder at the Buber-Rosenzweig-Institut of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.
