An exhibit by painter Alexander Dettmar for the first time in Italy and Slovenia

In Trieste, Gorizia, Nova Gorica and San Daniele del Friuli

For the first time in Italy and Slovenia, the pictorial work with which the German artist Alexander Dettmar recalls the destroyed, looted or vandalized synagogues after the Kristallnacht of 9-10 November 1938, the violent pogrom that struck the Jewish population throughout the Third Reich.

One often wonders how we can fulfill the obligation of memory. The indomitable nature of the human being often pushes him to shy away from constraints, from the cage of banality into which ties, even the most motivated, are slowly transformed. The answer depends on our talents. The psychologist will use psychology to confront the abyss, the writer will use his pen, the philosopher his intellect, the historian his archives, the painter his canvas. With his work Alexander Dettmar gives us the best part of himself, the part that we all should donate to Memory.

The exhibition itinerary – presented in a widespread form that expands in Trieste, Gorizia, Nova Gorica and San Daniele del Friuli – is enriched by some works, in which the artist depicts Jewish places of worship that have undergone the same fate during the years of the Second World War, in Belarus, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
