The book offers the first reconstruction of what happened in Badia Polesine, in the province of Rovigo, in 1855, and investigates all the mechanisms triggered by the story told by Giuditta Castillero, self-declared victim of an attempted ritual murder. D’Antonio gives voice to her, to her supporters and to those who opposed the false accusation: from the real victim of the affair, Caliman Ravenna, to those who pledged to clear him of the accusation. The Jewish world was not a passive spectator, in fact, but also contributed to the solution of the case under the banner of the fight against prejudice.
